Do you have many things to do? Do you think that you got very limited time to achieve your goals? Do you sometimes think that your goals are unachievable, given the time and effort you can spare for them? Stop all that worry and just put yourself to work. Yeah, it isn't as easy as it sounds, but it is easy. Just do your work! You do not know what work to do or how to do it? That's a separate problem and an easy one. But let us agree on one thing: once you have the insight into what you want to do and the vision of how to do it, you will go for the work full on. If we agree on this, let us move to that separate problem.
Knowing what to do is not really that big deal, but deciding what to do is. Most people have things in mind for what they like to do. Find a job, finish a degree, read a book, go to the gym, cook a meal, and other interesting stuff. If you do not know what you want to do, don't panic; that's very easy to know. Just think about the valuable things in your life. If you value certain things, you would have certain desires toward them. If you value family, you would have a desire to have a happy family or to sustain your healthy family relationships. These desires will specify certain goals, and these goals will show you things to do. Now you, too, have things to do.
Let us now, then, decide what to do. Because many people know what they want to do but think that these goals are too much to pursue, and they feel so overwhelmed that they stop pursuing anything altogether. The right thing here to do is to decide what should be given priority over others.
Start with one goal and transform it into small tasks that you fit into your daily routine. Start small. Don’t be very hopeful and expect too much from the start. Go step by step. Build your daily routine and fill it with small tasks that contribute to your specific goals. If you stick to them for a good amount of time, you will definitely see the difference and find yourself achieving your goal without really thinking about it as much.
You just have to stop the worry and do the work, small work. Fix your routine, improve it, add more tasks, remove overwhelming tasks, compromise, think wisely and realistically, don’t overdo things, and don’t expect yourself to be perfect. Most of the anxiety induced by certain responsibilities we have disappears when we actually start dealing with these responsibilities. For the act of working is very pleasant and gives us a good feeling about ourselves. But thinking about the pain we will get from working and continuously fantasizing about it unrealistically would never get us anyway in our real contact with the world and will harm our mental well-being in several ways. So, whenever you find your mind wandering before a certain task giving your unpleasant feelings, tell yourself to stop worrying and just start the work.
